Description
The Old School House is a house that was formerly the dwelling of a school master. It has origins dating from the early to mid 17th century and was altered and refaced in the early 19th century. The building was originally timber framed and is now constructed of red brick with white brick dressings, topped with a tiled roof. It consists of two cells and is one storey high with an attic.
The entrance is recessed to the left of the centre and features a later weatherboarded porch. There are small pane horizontal sliding sash windows flanking the entrance, which are recessed and have slightly cambered white brick heads, though they are unevenly spaced. Above the entrance and the right window, there are gabled dormers that also contain small horizontal sliding sashes. The left end has an extruded stack made of 17th-century brick with tumbled-in offsets, while a 19th-century stack is located at the right end of the ridge. The right gable end is roughcast. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value and historic interest as a village school house from the 17th and 18th centuries.
