Description

No. 53 High Street is a house that likely dates from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century. The upper floor features an exposed timber frame, while the ground floor is plastered and the left gable end is roughcast. The front of the house has three 20th-century barred windows. A red brick chimney stack, which was added in the late 17th century, is located on the rear slope of the roof. Internally, the house consists of three bays, and a back wing was added in the 17th century. A diamond-mullioned window from the original house was blocked when the chimney stack was inserted. The first-floor room at the rear includes a bolection-moulded fireplace.
