Description
Holly Tree Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with a 18th-century brick front on the north side and alterations made in the early 19th century. The building features a timber frame that is plastered and lined to resemble ashlar. The ground floor is encased in plum brick with lighter red dressings and has slate weathering at the top. To the west, there is a timber-framed outhouse that is dark weatherboarded. The house has steeply pitched slate roofs and is two storeys tall with attics, facing north, and includes a single-storey outhouse at the west end.
The layout consists of a two-cells plan with a rear wall chimney on the eastern part and a projecting chimney on the western gable. The north front has two windows on each floor, arranged one above the other. These are flush box sash windows with moulded surrounds and 10/10 panes. At the left-hand end of the front, there is an older six-panel fielded door set in a heavy frame, featuring light red dressings and a flat gauged arch. The ground floor windows also have similar dressings and arches. A doorway, inserted around 1800 between the windows, has a reeded surround with corner blocks, consoles, and a flat moulded hood.
