Description
This is a group of cottages located at 3-21 Meadow Way, built in 1916 by C.M. Crickmer as part of a planned development within a Garden City. The cottages are a successful example of grouped housing, combining detached and semi-detached cottages with terraces to create green spaces on either side of Meadow Way. They were originally designed for single businesswomen, who shared communal dining facilities in a central building. The cottages range over one and a half to two storeys. Numbers 7 to 19 (odd) are arranged symmetrically, featuring projecting end and central bays. They have hipped tiled roofs with gabled dormers and red brick stacks. The walls are roughcast, and the windows are casement windows with glazing bars. Numbers 7 to 19 (odd) include 4-light bay windows linked by a canopy extending over paired entrances. Numbers 3, 5, and 21 have entrances sheltered by canopies.
