Description
The Museum is a Grade II listed building located on the east side of Broadway, constructed in 1914 and 1920 by architect Barry Parker. It features a classical style and was originally intended to be part of a larger block. The building has three storeys and a symmetrical facade with projecting entrance bays. The window arrangement is 1:1:3:1:1. It has a tiled roof with coped gables and a brick ridge stack. The front is made of brick, and it includes architraved sash windows with glazing bars. The windows in the entrance bay are set in vertical recesses of Portland stone, with cornices above the first-floor windows, which are located in arched recesses. The ground floor is distinguished by an entablature at the first-floor level, and the doorways are architraved with segmental open pediments. Major additions were made to the building between 1960 and 1965 by C M Crickmer.
