Description

The farmhouse at White Farm is a house dating from the 16th century, with rearrangements made in the 18th century. The date '1723' is painted above a new door on the west side. It features a timber frame on a flint sill wall with brick corners, and is roughcast with a band of red tile hanging that is scalloped on the west wall of the wing and the east gable. The steeply pitched roofs are now covered with slate and have a red tile ridge. There is an old red brick central chimney with two thick diagonal square shafts.

This one and a half storey T-plan house faces south and includes a hall range, a west crosswing, and a central chimney at the junction of the wing, with a lobby entrance. The main entrance was later moved to the middle of the west side of the wing facing the road, which features a boarded door in a heavy frame, flanked by a three-light and a two-light window, along with gabled dormers at the eaves. There is a sash window with 8/8 panes on the east side.

Inside, the ground floor west room has very heavy beams over a wide fireplace and to the ceiling, along with wide wall posts. There is a 17th-century cupboard in the east room, and the doors have strap hinges on lugs. The architraves feature cyma mouldings, and the doors have hand-worked panels. On the first floor, some floorboards are 12 inches wide, and there are generally very heavy timbers in the framing.
