Description

Numbers 58 and 58A, along with the outshoot numbered 50 on Church Street, are located in Ware Town. This building, originally a house with living accommodation above, dates back to the 17th century but was refronted in the 18th century and has undergone significant alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a timber-framed structure with a colourwashed red brick front and an old tiled gambrel roof, which includes two box dormers with modern windows set behind a parapet. The building is two storeys tall with attics and has a moulded cornice.

On the first floor, there are four sash windows with divided glazing set in reveals under rubbed flat arches. The ground floor has twin modern timber shopfronts, likely simplified reproductions of earlier 19th-century designs. The side elevation is made of red brick and includes a blank arched recess on the ground floor, with a plastered attic gable. The Church Street frontage features 19th-century outshoots that are three and two storeys high, constructed of red brick with sash windows and Welsh slated roofs. The ground floor of the two-storey outshoot has been modern rebuilt. This building is included for its group value.
