Description
Aston Bury Barn, located 70 meters to the northwest of the house, is a barn that has been converted into a meeting hall. It dates from the mid-17th century and features a timber frame resting on a high old red brick sill. The barn is dark weatherboarded at the rear and at the tops of the gables, but it is nogged with red brick elsewhere. It has a steep old red tile half-hipped roof and consists of a tall six-bay aisled structure facing east, with gabled double doors in the second and fifth bays. The spur-sill walls and sill plates support heavy jowled arcade posts, which are connected to curved braces leading to the arcade plates and tie-beams. There are mortices indicating the presence of aisle-ties that have since been removed. Heavy inclined curved queen-posts support clasped purlins, which are further reinforced with curved wind-braces. The roof has been strengthened with the addition of passing braces, likely added around 1909, along with straight collars and mid-bay strainer beams. The end bays have been partitioned off, and 20th-century glazed doors have replaced the original barn doors.
