Description
The North Barn at Hadham Park is a 16th-century barn located at the east end of the north side of the yard, 40 metres north-north-east of the house. It consists of three bays with a central south porch that projects outward. An additional north aisle and porch extension were added in the 17th or 18th century. The barn features a high red brick base, which has a thicker lower half and an external offset. The timber frame is covered with weatherboarding, and it has a very steeply pitched gabled roof that is now covered in corrugated iron. The structure includes jowled posts and long curved braces connecting the tie beams and wall plates. The north wall plate is scarfed in mid-span with an edge-halved joint and bridled butts. The roof is constructed with clasped purlins and features long curved wind braces that are lap-jointed to the backs of the purlins. Inside the porch, there are remains of plaster on lath lining. The barn is part of a courtyard group.
