Description
Holly Tree Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It features a long timber frame that is plastered, standing two storeys tall and facing east, topped with a half-hipped thatched roof. The exterior includes modern panelled pargetting and has four windows on each floor. The entrance leads into a thatched single-storey lean-to at the northern end, with an additional thatched lean-to at the back. There is also a modern single-storey tiled and gabled rear wing. The windows are modern timber casements with small panes, and there is a tiled, hipped square bay window on the southern end. A central red brick chimney is located in the middle of the house, and thin timbers are exposed inside. The site represents an encroachment on the green that is not depicted on the Clintons Estate map from 1588. The building was two houses until recently.
