Description
Meadow Cottage is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the late 17th century. It is a very small timber-framed structure facing west. The cottage was once extended to the north and is notable for having been open to the roof from one end to the other. It has one and a half storeys, is plastered, and features a steep old red tile roof that is half-hipped to the south and gabled to the north, where there is an external gable chimney made of red brick. A large gabled dormer sits on the front wall plate, and the upper part of the front is decorated with incised circles. There are two windows and an off-centre plank door, with wooden casement windows, including a four-light window in the dormer. The cottage has a black painted plinth and a short rear wing that is also plastered, with a gabled old red tile roof and a weatherboard apron at the lower part of the walls. Inside, there are stud partitions and a floor that was inserted in the late 17th century. This cottage is likely the same one depicted on the Clintons Estate map from 1588.
