Description
The barn at Lower Farm, located 30 meters southeast of the house, dates back to the 17th century. It features a timber frame that has been raised on a blockwork plinth and is weatherboarded, topped with a steeply pitched roof now covered in corrugated sheeting. This tall, six-bay, single-aisled barn faces north and has a rear aisle with three bays infilled. A gabled front porch is situated at the third bay from the west. The structure includes jowled posts with long slender curved braces connecting to the tie-beams and arcade plate, as well as aisle ties. The roof, which was formerly thatched, has an inclined Queen strut clasped-purlin design, strengthened by a lower purlin supported on bearers between the principal and Queen strut.
