Description
Girton House is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with a south bay added in the 18th century and a late 18th-century brick front. The building features a timber frame on a brick sill, roughcast with a grey Gault brick front and steep half-hipped roofs covered in old red tiles. It is two storeys high with a cellar and has a T-shaped plan, facing west. The west front has three windows, which are parapeted and contain three-light leaded casements set under segmental arches. There is a large chimney located at the junction of the rear wing and the front range. The north end of the house was originally a two-bay crosswing oriented east-west, with a two-bay hall adjoining to the south that has a framed south wall. The roof has been reconstructed to resemble a single range. Inside, chamfered axial beams support the floors, and the rear wing retains a clasped purlin roof.
