Description
White House is a large house dating to approximately 1848, and possibly incorporating earlier fabric. It is constructed of stuccoed brickwork under a slate roof. The house presents a flamboyant design with elaborate stucco detailing in a Renaissance classical style, and faces east. It has two storeys. The east front features a modillioned cornice and five oriel windows to the first floor, which are semi-circular with mullioned and transomed windows. A projecting central section has a rusticated ground floor and quoins. A Tuscan porch has a full entablature and an arched doorway with a four-panel, half-glazed door and fanlight. There are two round-headed sash windows with a radial pattern of glazing bars, and rectangular bay windows with mullion and transom windows to the right and left ends. A similar oriel is located on the south end. A two-storey rear wing has a slated roof, with a jettied south side. The rear wing has sash windows with 6/6 panes. The house was formerly called Bradbury House and occupies the site of an older building, being renamed in 1920.
