Description
The gate piers, garden gate, and frontage wall at Nine Ashes Farm, located 45 meters west of the house, date from the 18th century and feature elements from the 16th and 19th centuries. The structure includes two tall square brick piers from the early 18th century that flank the farm entrance, topped with stone caps and large balls. To the right of the right-hand pier is a later 19th-century wrought iron gate leading into the garden, which has a running scroll design in its flanking standards and scrollwork overhead. The late 16th-century red brick wall has two offsets and its upper part has been rebuilt. The brickwork is in English bond with a pattern of black headers. At the southern end, the wall rises to connect with a former walled garden that is now part of Orchard House. This group of structures is of special interest in the history of Nine Ashes and is essential to the farm's character, forming part of a roadside group with the 16th-century walled enclosure of Orchard House.
