Description

This is a bridge over the New River on The Meads, built in 1816 as part of a series of prefabricated bridges. It features cast-iron arch girders with perforated spandrels and ornamental keystones that include the date of construction. The bridge has a convex chordal profile and spans approximately 4.5 meters. It is inscribed with "New River Co." and "Priestfield Ironworks near Bilston" from Staffordshire. The arches are supported by brick abutments, and the outer arches are equipped with cast-iron post and rail handrails.
