Description

The Old Rectory is a house built around 1735, with extensions and alterations made in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick that has been colourwashed, and features a hipped slate roof. The building has a five-bay double depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic.

There are steps leading up to the central entrance, which has a six raised panelled door with a rectangular fanlight set in a panelled reveal. This entrance is framed by a Roman Doric pedimented doorcase with fluted pilasters. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with 15 panes on the ground floor and 12 panes on the first floor, all set back with gauged brick segmental heads. The building has a plinth, a plat band, and a coped parapet. Notably, there is an 18th-century insurance marker located in the centre of the first floor.

The roof features three flat-topped dormers with two lights each and there are end stacks. To the left, there is a lower two-storey, one-bay addition that includes an entrance with a reeded surround. On the right side, there is a 19th-century two-thirds glazed door with a reeded surround, two ground floor sashes, and two first floor casements, along with a plat band.

At the rear, there is a central 20th-century glazed opening on the ground floor, with three flat-headed sashes to the right. The first floor has a plat band, and the central window features a round-headed relieving arch, topped by a coped parapet. The 19th-century bay includes two French windows and a first floor sash. The interior has not been inspected.
