Description

The Green Dragon Public House is a building that was originally a house, dating back to the early 17th century for the rear wing, while the front range was rebuilt in the early 19th century, reportedly in 1836. Side extensions were added around 1980. The rear wing is timber-framed and roughcast, while the front range is constructed of red brick with a stucco plinth and a south front featuring blue headers, red brick window dressings, quoins, and a dentilled corbelled band at the eaves. The front range has an old red tile roof that is hipped at the eastern end, and the rear wing also has a red tiled roof. The building is two storeys high with three windows on the south front, which includes an added gabled central porch. The first floor features 2-light flush small-paned casement windows, while the ground floor has 3-light casements set under segmental arches. There is an external gable chimney on the left-hand side and a very large old chimney at the rear where it meets the lower rear wing. Inside, the taproom in the eastern part of the front range retains original pine dado panelling, a fire surround, a mantle shelf, and a spit rack. The northern half of the rear wing was open to the roof until around 1980.
