Description
The Wheatsheaf Public House is a building that originally dates back to the 17th century, with some additions made in the lower 19th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered, with painted brick on the ground floor and a steep old red tile roof. The northern addition has a slate roof and includes a small single-storey building with weatherboarding and an old red tile roof, located next to the gate.
This two-storey building with an attic and cellar has an internal chimney plan and faces east, consisting of two cells with further additions sloping to the north. There are two windows on each floor and a lean-to porch on the northern part of the main building. Inside, the structure reveals exposed beams and joists, and the side along High Street likely had a jettied design originally. A former lobby entrance has been blocked off. The building features jowled posts with curved braces, a clasped purlin roof with collar and queen strut trusses, and an old newel stair leading to the attic. The floor beams are chamfered with run-out stops, and there are flat joists. Additionally, there are single-storey weatherboarded extensions with either slate or tiled roofs to the northwest.
