Description
The East Wing at No. 31 is an outhouse that was once a butcher's shop and is now used as a store. It dates from the 17th century or earlier and was altered in the 19th century. The building features a timber frame that is exposed on the west side, with red brick infill and a surviving panel of wattle and daub. The east side is cased in brick, while the south front is painted brick with a late 19th-century shop front. The roof is covered with old red tiles. This small two-storey structure is attached to the east end of No. 31, which is not of special interest. It has a gable end facing the street and a large external chimney located centrally at the rear gable. Inside, there are jowled posts and a clasped purlin roof supported by collar trusses, with principals that are not diminished. The walling contains wide panels, and the floor has been cut back and supported on an iron post to accommodate the shop front. This building was formerly a wing of Newhall Farm.
