Description

The Rose and Crown Public House is a building that dates from the 17th century or earlier for its rear wing, with an 18th century brick front to that wing, and a front block that is either 18th century or early 19th century. The rear wall of the rear wing features exposed timber framing with red brick infill, while the south gable is covered in dark weatherboarding. The west front of the rear wing showcases a red brick pattern with black headers, and the front block is made of red brick with a painted plaster finish. The building has a steep old red tile roof on the rear wing and a slated roof on the front block.

It stands two stories high with a cellar, featuring end chimneys. The front block faces north onto the road, with the older wing extending to the south and facing west. There are flat-roofed extensions on the east side that are not of special interest. The north front is symmetrical with two windows and a central entrance. The first floor has flush casement windows, while the ground floor features a half-glazed door flanked by flush box sash windows with eight-over-eight panes. There is a cellar flap under the left-hand window and louvred shutters on the ground floor.

The west front of the rear wing has two windows on each floor, with three-light casements and segmental arches on the ground floor. An internal chimney is located in the center, and there are plank doors in heavy frames at each end of the front. In front of the building, there is a well with wooden winding gear and chain. The rear wall of the old wing displays an exposed frame with a mid-height rail and widely spaced studs.
