Description
Adam Cottage is a house that dates back to the 17th century or earlier, with a southern part raised in the 19th century and a single-storey northern wing added in the late 20th century. The original timber frame is exposed at the front and rear of the older middle section, which features red brick infill and casing on the ground floor. The southern part showcases red and blue brickwork in Flemish bond, with plum brick in stretcher bond above the exposed former wallplate, while the northern wing is made of sandy red brick. The northern part is constructed in red brick in stretcher bond. The building has steep old red tile roofs and is irregular in shape, forming an L-shape and facing west. The middle section retains its timber frame, with an internal chimney that rises through the rear slope of the roof, and a front lobby entrance that leads to a house that once extended to the north. The southern part likely served as a single-storey adjunct, possibly a stable or service wing. The west front features an upper window in the middle, two windows in the southern part, and three in the taller northern part. The entrance is centrally located and consists of a plank door beneath a large gabled tiled timber porch from the 19th century. The windows are three-light flush casements with small panes. The rear wall includes a full-height bay post and five brick panels between the studs on the upper floor.
