Description
No. 81 High Street is an early 18th-century building featuring a rainwater head dated 1726 with the initials H and I M. It is constructed of brown and grey brick in header bond, with a Flemish bond parapet and red brick dressings. The building stands three storeys tall, with moulded brick bands at the second floor and eaves level, and Doric end pilasters. The central ground floor has a carriageway flanked by shop bay windows, all beneath a continuous tiled pentice roof. There are five flush sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor, set under segmental arches. The second floor has three similar windows and two dummy windows. This building is part of a group that includes Nos. 57 and 83 (odd) and Nos. 63A and 79A.
