Description

Mill House is a house dating from around 1700, with a west range added around 1750 and renovated around 1980. It is constructed of red brick in two sections, with the north and south sides and the rear (east) now plastered, leaving an exposed brick dentilled eaves band. The house features a steep hipped tiled roof. There is a 20th-century brick and tile garage at the northeast corner, which is not of special interest.

The original part of the house has two storeys and a cellar, with two windows on each floor of the irregular east elevation, and a central door accessed by seven steps. The left-hand side has triple sashes set flush, while the right-hand side has flush sashes with 8/8 panes. The later front range has an offset plinth and different floor levels.

The symmetrical west front includes a plinth, a moulded brick eaves cornice, and a parapet. It is three windows wide with a central door. The flush box sash windows have flat gauged arches and 6/6 panes. The Regency wooden doorcase features three-quarter columns and a full entablature, with feather and paterae capitals and paterae on the frieze that breaks forward over each column. The interior has deep panelled arched reveals and glazed double doors with a radial fanlight, along with moulded interior window shutters. The south flank has French windows and an 8/12 sash window above, with a triple sash window on each floor of the rear range. This house was the miller's residence for the now-demolished Kings Langley watermill.
