Description

Lock No. 70 is a lock on the Grand Union Canal, built circa 1797 as part of the Grand Junction Canal (later the Grand Union Canal). The lock has brick walls, timber gates, and timber and iron bollards, likely cast in 1896 by the London and Lancashire Engineering Co. It measures 88 feet by 16 feet, designed to accommodate narrow boats in pairs. The structure is included on the list for its group value, alongside Home Park Lock House on Station Road. Note that the western half of the lock falls within the civil parish of King’s Langley in Dacorum Borough.
