Description
Tudor Lodge is a gatelodge to Ashridge, now functioning as a private house. It likely dates from the 17th century and was gothicized in the early 19th century, with extensions added to the rear. The building is constructed of red brick and features old red tile roofs. The thin walls on the north and east sides of the original south range may suggest timber framing.
The house is two storeys tall with an attic and has a two-cells internal layout with an internal chimney and a lobby-entry plan, facing south. There is a two-storey rear wing from the 19th century, along with a lean-to extension on the east and a gabled extension to the rear wing. The south front includes black headers, a floor band, and dentilled eaves, with two windows on each floor flanking a central door. Each window features chamfered segmental arches and three-light lattice leaded casements.
On the roof slope to the west of the large central chimney, which has conjoined diagonal shafts, there is a Gothick bargeboarded two-light dormer. The entrance features a four-centre arched doorway with half-glazed double doors, and there is a canted bay window on the west end that overlooks the drive.
