Description
No. 22 is a house located in Little Gaddesden, dating from the 17th century. It was subdivided around 1838 and later extended and covered in half timbering in 1872 for Lord Brownlow, as indicated by a dated shield on the south gable chimney. The timber frame is encased in 19th-century half timbering arranged in a close-set grid, with plum brick and blue brick infill. The house has a steep old red tile roof and is 1½ stories tall, facing west. It features a large central chimney with four shafts and five windows across the front, along with four gabled dormers at the eaves. The windows are lattice leaded casements. There are end gabled chimneys on the extension added in 1872. A 20th-century parallel two-storey rear range has been constructed using timbers from a Suffolk barn. In 1971, the property was made into one house.
