Description
Monson Almshouses, built in 1728, is a Grade II listed building located on the east side of Hoddesdon High Road in Broxbourne. This structure is made of red brick and features a hipped old tile roof with a parapet. It stands two storeys tall and has a central door flanked by four windows. The door consists of eight fielded panels and is topped with a segmental pediment and an apron adorned with triglyphs and guttae.
On the first floor, there is a blank window that has a plastered cartouche with a painted hatchment and an inscribed panel. The ground floor windows are segmental-headed, 6/6-pane sash windows that retain their original glazing bars and are fitted with shutters.
To the north, there is a one-window extension from the mid-19th century, constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings, which continues as a four-window rear elevation. Additionally, there is a one-window rear extension on the south side that dates to the early 19th century.
