Description

Stable Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th century, with a similar 20th-century ancillary unit added on the west side to create a dwelling. The building is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a peg-tiled roof, and has a rectangular plan. It stands one and a half storeys tall.

The north front elevation features twin gables from the old and new units, with the eastern block showcasing old wall plate horns and collars, along with visible side purlins. The remaining features are from the 20th century. The entrance door has upper glazing divided into two sections with three panes each and three sunk panels. There are two ground floor and two upper floor three-light casement windows, all with rectangular leaded panes.

On the west side elevation, there is one ground floor two-light window in a similar style and one upper single casement window towards the rear. The east side elevation is blank, displaying rendered timber framing facing the lane from the churchyard. The rear south elevation has twin gables that back onto the north churchyard wall. The 20th-century unit is integrated with this wall.

Inside, the original eastern unit has exposed upper framing across two bays. A tie-beam has been removed, and the middle section of the side walls features relatively close studding, while the ends have straight primary braces. The roof is of clasped side purlin form.
