Description

Dick Turpin's Cottage is a 17th to 18th century timber-framed and plastered building located on the south-east side of Hempstead High Street. The cottage has been renovated in the 20th century, with the timber-framing exposed on the front. It features a gable at the south-west end and consists of one storey with attics. The windows are casement style, and the roof is thatched, topped with a central square chimney stack. This cottage is believed to have been the birthplace of the infamous Dick Turpin, although at the time, his father was the proprietor of the Rose and Crown Inn.
