Description

The Ashdon War Memorial is a significant structure located in a garden on the village green of Ashdon. It is made of Portland stone and features bronze plaques along with concrete steps. The memorial stands on a wide base that consists of three shallow concrete steps.

On the front of the memorial, there is a bronze plaque that reads, "TO THE MEN OF ASHDON WHO/ GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE/ GREAT WAR/ (NAMES)." The rear of the memorial features an engraved quotation from John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress, which states, "AND ALL THE TRUMPETS SOUNDED/ FOR THEM ON THE OTHER SIDE." Additionally, there is a side plaque dedicated to those who died in the Second World War, inscribed with "TO THOSE WHO DIED/ IN THE/ SECOND WORLD WAR/ 1939 – 1945/ (NAMES)."

Beneath the main memorial, a Portland stone plaque has been added to commemorate Elizabeth Everitt.
