Description

This is a barn located 24 meters to the southwest of Shingle Hall, dating from the late 14th century. It features a timber frame that is partly plastered and partly weatherboarded, topped with a half-hipped roof made of red plain tiles. The barn is five bays long and has a gabled midstrey at the north end. It is heavily braced with curved aisle bracing and has reversed assembly at the eaves. The posts are jowled, and the original roof remains intact except for the removal of the crownpost. The arcade plate scarfs are halved and bridled. There are extensions from the 17th or early 18th century at the east end, which are also timber framed, plastered, and weatherboarded, featuring red plain tile roofs and Gothic windows with two-centred heads in the end wall.
