Description

Probably dating from the 18th century, The Wash and Wash Cottages were originally the Debden Workhouse, later converted into private dwellings in 1878. This is a timber-framed building with plaster rendering, arranged as a range of buildings. The two-storey structure has seven windows, most of which are old metal casements. The roof is thatched, with a half-hipped section at the west end, and is punctuated by three ridge chimney stacks. The interior retains some exposed transverse beams and ceiling joists.
