Description

Ashfield Farmhouse is a late 16th-century farmhouse with alterations dating to the 17th and 20th centuries, and a 20th-century extension. It is timber-framed, with plastered walls and a tiled roof, built in a T-plan. The original west wing, consisting of two bays, dates back to the late 16th century and has a ceiled interior from the early 17th century. The main hall block was substantially rebuilt in the 17th and 20th centuries. The house is two stories high, and all windows are 20th-century replacements. The west wing features a clasped purlin roof. Very little of the original timber framing was visible in 1982. Significant alterations and modernization have diminished the historical significance of the house, though the late 16th-century west wing retains special architectural and historical interest.
