Description
Amberden Hall is a Grade II listed building located on Croft Lane in Widdington. It consists of the remains of a mid-16th century red brick house, along with an 18th to 19th century block on the north front. The original house, likely built around 1560, was significant enough to have a nearby chapel. The current structure is probably the north-west wing of the original building.
Amberden Hall has two storeys and attics, with a tiled roof featuring a central chimney stack that has the bases of six octagonal shafts. The east end showcases original moulded brick windows on both the ground and upper storeys, with the ground storey windows being particularly wide. Above the upper storey windows, there is a frieze decorated with a sexfoil floral design. The interior reportedly contains original fireplaces. The 18th to 19th century block features a three-window range of double-hung sashes with glazing bars, and a central six-panel door with a fanlight, set beneath a Doric porch with fluted columns. The roof of this block is slate.
