Description
Berden Hall is a 16th-century red brick house, featuring rainwater heads that are dated 1655 and display heraldic arms. The building was originally rectangular with wings extending on the west side, and has 17th-century additions at the rear, during which all the windows were altered. Each side of the house has three gables, mostly adorned with moulded copings and finials, some of which have been restored. The house is two storeys high with attics.
On the ground floor, there are some 17th-century mullioned and transomed windows with leaded lights. The east front showcases a four-window range of casements that include mullions and a transom. The gable windows are two-light casements. Raised brick bands run across the fronts between the storeys. The east front features a central doorway with a three-centred arch, a square label mould, chamfered pilasters, and an original panelled door. Above this doorway, on the first storey, is a central sunk oval panel. The north and south fronts exhibit similar architectural features.
The roofs are tiled and include two original chimney stacks, each with four octagonal shafts that have been restored and sit on rectangular bases. Inside, there is an original staircase with an open square well and open balusters decorated with strapwork.
