Description
The railings to Manuden House, dating from around 1820, are made of wrought iron and feature cast finials. They stand on a gault brick plinth with stone coping. The low plinth ends to the north-east with a brick pier topped by a pyramid stone cap and a ball finial. The railings have circular stiles supported by scrolled braces, which end in fleur-de-lys finials. The verticals are circular in section and rise through plain bottom, middle, and top rails, finishing with ball and steeple finials. The lower verticals are slightly smaller and do not have finials. The top rails slope upwards to meet the stiles.
There are double gates to the south, which are hung on open cage piers made of four tubular verticals with cross braces between each pair, supported by single triangular braces with scrolled infill. The piers are topped with cast pyramid caps and feature cast-iron owls. The gates are constructed similarly to the railings, with secondary verticals rising through the top rails. Three additional bays of railings extend south-west to connect with a high gault brick wall. At the north end, there is an identical pair of gates and piers.
