Description
Josephes is a 15th-century hall house located on Takeley Street. It features a gabled and jettied crosswing at the east end, with one bay of the hall remaining. The building has one storey and attics, as well as two storeys. It is topped with a red plain tile roof that is half hipped at the west end. The façade includes a two-window range with leaded casements and one gabled dormer. A 16th-century red brick chimney stack is present, and timber framing is exposed at the west end and on the front of the crosswing. There is a modern extension to the rear and a modern lean-to extension on the east side. The hall features a crown post roof with jowled posts, arch bracing, and a cambered tie beam.
