Description
Ring Hill Cottage and No 2 is an early 16th century timber-framed and plastered house with two bays, positioned at right angles to the road. It has two storeys, with the upper storey jettied on the road front. Shortly after the original house was built, a hall block was added to the east side, along with a smoke bay that featured an open hearth against the east wall. This smoke bay was discovered during renovations and showed significant smoke blackening. A floor was later added, likely in the 17th century, when a brick chimney stack was constructed. There is a lean-to addition on the east end. The windows include both horizontal sliding sashes and casements. The doorway leading to the cross passage of the hall has cyma and hollow moulding, along with a broach footstop, indicating it dates from the first quarter of the 16th century. The roofs are tiled, featuring a gabled dormer and a central square chimney stack for the hall block. The roof of the two-storeyed section includes a crown post.
