Description
Parsonage Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1400, featuring a hall and crosswing with later additions and alterations. The building underwent changes in the 20th century, which included incorporating a three-bay late 15th-century structure at the rear that has a soot-encrusted crown post roof. The exterior is exposed timber framed with plaster infill, topped with a red plain tile roof that slopes down to the right and has a hipped and dropped section to the left. The left side has a gabled dormer and a red tiled roof over the first-floor porch. The central third storey is clad in red hanging tiles, and there is a jetty at the first floor. The house has three storeys and a cellar, with a four-window range on the ground floor, a fine range on the first floor, and another four-window range on the second floor, all featuring various lights with transoms and diamond leaded glass. The entrance has a nailed plank and muntin door, and there are red brick chimney stacks on both the right and left sides.
Around 1490, a red brick chimney stack was added to the original hall and crosswing, the crosswing roof was raised, and a rear staircase turret and brick-lined cellar were introduced. By 1600, the hall was largely rebuilt, featuring a first-floor long wall jetty, a large red brick chimney, and a rebuilt staircase turret. This new section was one and a half storeys high above the jetty. The house has seen further alterations and additions over time, but it retains jowled storey posts, fine 16th and 17th-century panelling, and a 16th-century door, along with a fine late 15th-century fireplace and a 16th-century fireplace. The rear range is believed to be the original separate kitchen with a floored single end.
