Description

The White House is a house dating from the 16th century, with extensions made in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered, and the roof is primarily covered with handmade red clay tiles, with some machine-made red clay tiles at the back. The house has three bays facing northwest and an axial stack located in the middle bay. To the right, there is a large two-storey crosswing built around 1910, which includes an internal stack at the junction. At the rear, there are three single-storey extensions from the 20th century, each with different roofing styles. The house has one storey with attics and includes three 20th-century casements, as well as an additional casement in a flat-roofed dormer. The entrance features a 20th-century six-panel door. Inside, there is a chamfered binding beam with lamb's tongue stops, a chamfered axial beam that is unstopped, and chamfered joists with plain stops supported by moulded clamps. A large wood-burning hearth is plastered and faces to the right. The roof has clasped purlins that incorporate reused rafters from a crownpost roof, some of which are smoke-blackened, and the front pitch has been repaired with softwood. Much of the structure is concealed by interior plaster. This house is located in the same position as the Whitehouse Farm described by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, but it does not match the description provided.
