Description
This cottage, located adjacent to the west of the Ancient House, features a front range from the 19th century and a rear range that dates back to the 17th or 18th century, or possibly even earlier. The front range is constructed of plastered brick and has a grey slate roof that is gabled towards the road, with a red brick chimney stack at the rear. The rear range is timber framed and weatherboarded, topped with a red plain tiled gambrel roof and a rear chimney stack.
The front range is two storeys high, while the rear range has one storey and attics, which include two flat-headed dormers. The front gable is adorned with bargeboards and a finial. The front facade features a two-window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes, while the rear range has two-light casements and vertically boarded doors. Historical records suggest that the cottage was likely occupied by William Lappiage, a shopkeeper, in 1796.
