Description
Ardleigh Park is an 18th-century house, possibly of earlier origin, with later alterations and additions. The building features a gault brick facade from around 1830 and has a hipped grey slate roof with chimney stacks at both the right and left rear. It stands three storeys high and consists of five bays, with the central bay projecting forward and topped by an open moulded pediment above the eaves. There are painted bands below the first and second floor windows, and the vertically sliding sash windows have gauged brick arches, except for the second floor of the central bay, which has two similar windows. A central portico with moulded capitals on the columns and pilasters supports a heavy frieze and cornice. The entrance has double doors with upper vertical lights and a fanlight above. The house was the residence of Reverend Marshall Lugar, a farmer and former curate of Thorrington and Arlesford. It was also known as New House and New Park.
