Description

Cameo Cottage is a cottage dating from 1778, with later extensions in the late 19th century and the 20th century. It is timber-framed, with plaster and weatherboard cladding, and a roof of handmade red clay tiles. The original section comprises two bays facing southeast, featuring an internal stack at the left end. A two-storey extension was added in the late 19th century to the left, and a 20th-century lean-to conservatory is situated in front of it. A 19th-century lean-to extension extends to the rear. The cottage is one storey in height with attics. The ground floor has three 20th-century casement windows with rectangular leading, while the first floor features two similar casements within lean-to dormers. The roof is gambrel shaped. A 20th-century door is located in a lean-to at the right rear corner. The left extension has a continuous line of 20th-century windows on the ground floor and one 20th-century casement on the first floor. Inside, the cottage contains chamfered axial beams and plain, vertically sectioned joists. Historical records from 1778 document that James Bowles was granted permission to build a cottage on the land, which he subsequently sold in 1782.
