Description
Purleigh Hall Barn, also known as The Old Barn, is a barn that was converted into two dwellings around 1982. It dates back to circa 1800 and is located on Purleigh Street in Purleigh. The structure is timber framed and weatherboarded, with some sections built of red brick in English bond, and it is roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Originally, the barn had 10 bays running approximately north to south, but it was reduced by 2 bays at the northern end due to fire damage. There are two midstreys on the eastern side, with an original outshut between them that forms a catslide with the main roof. The building is two storeys tall with attics. The eastern elevation features eight 20th-century windows on the ground floor, six on the first floor, and three in-pitch roof lights, along with three 20th-century doors. The plinth and the left return are made of brick. The main roof and midstreys are half-hipped, and the barn includes primary straight bracing and bolted knees to the straight tiebeams, with some reused timber present.
