Description

Green End is a house that was originally built in the early 18th century and has since been converted into a range of three cottages, now functioning as a single residence. The property was divided into two tenements in the late 18th century, with a third tenement added in the early 19th century, and later combined in the 20th century. The structure is timber framed with later brick infill, featuring plastered and weatherboarded sections, and a roof covered with handmade red clay tiles.

The house has three bays facing southeast, with a central stack that originally served as a lobby entrance, which is now blocked. The early 19th-century extension is located to the left, while a 20th-century lean-to extension runs along the full length of the rear. The building is one storey high with attics, and it has three 20th-century casements in 19th-century openings with segmental heads, along with three 20th-century casements in gabled dormers. There is a 20th-century door in a 19th-century doorway featuring a segmental arch, and another similar doorway has been converted to a casement in the 20th century. The roof is gambrel in style.

The facade of the original building is made of plastered brick, while the 19th-century extension is also of plastered brick. The right side of the house is weatherboarded. Inside, there is primary straight bracing, axial beams, and plain joists with a vertical section. The original house contains two wood-burning hearths that are back to back, and the left extension has a small coal-burning hearth without a grate on each floor. Historical records indicate that this plot was enclosed from the lord's waste in 1701, the original house was constructed by 1704, it was divided into two tenements before 1779, and extended to three tenements between 1813 and 1821.
