Description
No. 55 High Street is a late 19th-century shop built from red English-bond brick and featuring a concealed gambrel roof. The building stands three storeys tall with an attic and has a one-window range. The low-pitched parapeted gable is interrupted by a plain sash window that is topped with a brick pediment. The attic storey projects on a corbel table and is faced with square special bricks that have raised squares, creating a diaper effect.
On the second floor, there are two plain sash windows with segmental heads, keystones, pediments, and a linked entablature, all made of brick. The sill of these windows continues as a moulded dentilled string band. The first floor features a canted bay window with a swept lead tent roof, a dentilled cornice, and plain sash windows, with the area below the sills being panelled. The ground floor has a 19th-century shop front that has been much altered but retains end consoles. The interior has not been inspected.
