Description
A pair of semi-detached houses located in Maldon, built in the mid-18th century. The houses are timber-framed with a brick plinth and rendered over, and have half-hipped gambrel roofs with a brick ridge stack to the front, and gambrel roofs with brick end stacks to the rear. Each house has a two-unit plan. Externally, the houses are one storey with attics, and have a two-window front. Number 27 has a 20th-century door, while Number 29 has a 19th-century plank door with a moulded flat hood. Flat, rendered arches are above the 20th-century windows. There is a moulded wood cornice and hipped dormers with moulded wood cornices. A 1980s extension is located to the right. Inside Number 27, there is exposed timber framing with wall bracing, an 18th-century open fireplace, a chamfered beam supported on pegged-in blocks between the lateral partition studs, 18th-century winder stairs, and 18th-century plank doors with strap hinges. Number 29 was not inspected, but is noted to have similar features.
