Description

Lancaster House is an early 19th-century house located on Mill Road, Maldon. It is constructed of white-stuccoed brick with hipped slate roofs, and has a T-plan form. The exterior features two storeys and a three-window range. The first floor has eight-pane sash windows with incised flat arches flanking a similar window where a door previously stood. A projecting central porch has a semicircular-arched door opening and a balcony above, complete with a hipped slate roof and Gothic cast-iron handrails. Canted bay windows with hipped slate roofs are positioned on either side of the ground floor, housing sashes incorporating a central vertical glazing bar. The rear of the house has lower eaves and stacks are located on the flanks and on the rear block. The interior of the front block contains two rooms on each floor, each accessed directly from the porch by a pair of doors. A tight, straight-flight staircase is situated against the rear wall.
