Description
Hill Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1500 or earlier, with a rear range and later alterations. It is timber framed and faced with 19th-century red brick. The roof is a double range covered with red plain tiles. There are red brick chimney stacks, one off centre to the right and another external to the left. The house has two storeys and attics, featuring a three-window range of 19th-century three-light casements with central transoms and segmental arches above. The entrance includes a moulded three-panelled door with reveal panels and a flat canopy supported by moulded brackets.
Inside, notable features include a fine ceiling from around 1500 on the ground floor, with moulded and stop-chamfered bridging and ceiling joists, which were formerly jettied at the front of the house. There are jowled storey posts and a 19th-century staircase with pierced balusters. The rear wing has a heavy bridging joist and sloping ceiling joists, along with a later side purlin roof. The property is also enclosed by cast iron railings around the front garden.
